Silver American Eagle

Dating back to 1986, the American Silver Eagle is the official bullion coin of the United States and is minted by the US Mint. Crafted of 99.9% fine silver, and only struck in the 1 troy ounce size, the Silver American Eagle is legal tender and has a face value of $1 independent of the silver content. The Silver Eagle is considered one of the most beautiful silver coins to ever come from the US Mint.

The Silver Eagle Design

The Silver Eagle is an iconic design that is recognized around the world. The Walking Liberty obverse was created by Adolph Weinman for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that was used as early as 1916. The text boldly states "Liberty" and "In God We Trust" along with the year of issue. The Silver Eagle receives its moniker due to the reverse, as it includes an eagle with wings lifted high and 13 stars representing the 13 original states. The text includes "United States of America", "1 oz Fine Silver ~ One Dollar", and "E Pluribus Unum". This design continues to be used through the current year.

Bullion and Proof Dollar Coins

The first is certified, which means that the coins have been certified and graded by a professional rating company, such as PCGS or NGC. These coins are the premium versions of the US Mint silver coins, in outstanding condition and of a much higher value than simple loose bullion. Uncirculated coins, from the U S Mint (www.usmint.gov), are also in fantastic shape.
